Border Challenges – Atlantic Canada Ports
Jeffry F. Collins and Michael C. Ircha | BIG Research Reports | #88
With its relatively sparse population and immense distances between major urban centers, Canada requires an efficient transportation network to move goods and people across the country and beyond. Canada’s ports serve as key trade gateways. The national economy is underpinned by international trade and is dependent on efficient and productive ports. Ports in Atlantic Canada handle more than 25 percent of the Canada’s international maritime tonnage. This is a significant amount and is more than four times the Region’s overall contribution to Canada’s Gross Domestic Product
