Over the seven years of the grant, BIG will host three large international conferences, and several smaller ones. The purpose of the conferences is to bring together international border experts, government leaders, and private sector partners to strengthen our collaboration on the management of borders. By working with government partners, we can not only strengthen relationships, but also find solutions to common border challenges, and ensure that the BIG partnership fulfills its potential to conduct meaningful and policy-relevant research. We encourage our partners from the federal government and private sector to attend our conferences to learn from and share ideas with international experts and provincial government officials working on cross-border issues. The conferences provide a platform to facilitate dialogue between the various stakeholders engaged on border management in Canada.
The final BIG international conference held in conjunction with the Association for Borderlands Studies' Annual Conference, BIG colleagues have submitted a series of panels to present our findings at the ABS conference. This will effectively connect BIG's findings to broader discussions about borders and border studies. Click on the link for conference details.
The second international conference, co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, will be hosted in Ottawa in December 2017. Click on the link for conference details.
The inaugural conference was hosted at Carleton University in September 2014. Click on the link for conference details.
