Borders in Globalization hosted its second international conference in Ottawa on the 6th – 8th December, 2017, bringing together students, scholars and policy-makers on the key themes of the program. This event presented research to the policy, private and non-profit sectors to solicit feedback and facilitate discussions on the many dimensions of borders and bordering processes.

The conference brought together international border experts, government leaders, and private sector partners to strengthen our collaboration on the management of borders. By working with government partners, we can not only strengthen relationships, but also find solutions to common border challenges, and ensure that the BIG partnership fulfills its potential to conduct meaningful and policy-relevant research. Furthermore, the conference provided a platform to facilitate dialogue between the various stakeholders engaged on border management in Canada.

Speakers included Doug Saunders (Globe & Mail), Alan Bersin (Retired, Department of Homeland Security), Brice de Schietere (EU Delegation to Canada), Martin Guillermo Ramirez (AEBR), Jean Peyrony (Mission Operationelle Transfrontaliere), Anne Laure Amilhat Szary (PACTE-CNRS), Chris Sands (Johns Hopkins), Laura Dawson (Wilson Center), and Matt Morrison (Pacific Northwest Economic Region).
